Ian Hamilton is a founding Principal of DFH Public Affairs. He advises clients based in North America, Australia, Europe and Asia on a wide variety of communications and public affairs issues, including mergers and acquisitions, proxy contests, brand and reputation management, crisis and issues management, media relations, community and stakeholder relations, and more.
Ian’s diverse communications experience includes everything from chairing a multi-stakeholder communications committee for the largest ecological and human health risk assessment done in Canada, to leading the communications processes and campaigns for numerous transactions in Canada and abroad. He has worked on some of the largest and most complex transactions in Canadian history.
Before founding DFH, Ian was Director of Communications and Public Affairs for Falconbridge Limited, and subsequently for Xstrata Nickel following the acquisition of Falconbridge. He was part of a small team involved with the acquisition of Falconbridge by Xstrata for Cdn. $27 billion, which was the largest takeover in Canadian history at the time. At Falconbridge, he also held responsibility for a variety of functions relating to corporate communications, employee and labour relations, media relations, government relations, community and stakeholder relations, corporate social responsibility reporting, and crisis and issues management.
Ian began his career as a journalist, working as a reporter for both print and radio media. Ian has been involved in community service efforts, including as Board member for a community-based organization, and as volunteer communications committee member for the United Way of Hamilton-Burlington.
